Frequently Asked Questions
What do I wear to a massage?
You will be wearing underpants only for the massage. I will be as discreet as possible throughout the massage and any part of you not being massaged will be covered with a sheet. So just wear comfortable clothes that are easy to change in and out of.
Does the consultation time count as part of the massage?
No, the massage will last for exactly the amount of time that you booked, e.g. the actual time massaging will be 60 minutes if that is what you booked. The consultation at the beginning will not come out of that time.
What is the best length for a massage?
90 minutes is the length that is recommended for those that are new to the style of massage. The extra time gives the nervous system time to fully relax into the massage, given that it is a new experience and can take a while for the nervous to adapt. 90 minutes gives the full experience of the massage and allows more time to work on a particular issue.
Are there contraindications to receiving AYM?
We can vary the massage so that it is suitable for most clients depending on the condition they have. Of course it depends on the condition and various other factors. Please get in contact if you are unsure of whether you are able to receive Ayurvedic Yoga Massage.
What is the difference between Ayurvedic Yoga Massage and Thai massage?
Ayurvedic Yoga Massage is similar to Thai Massage in that it includes assisted stretches and it is a floor based massage that uses the practitioners body weight to facilitate the massage. The main difference is that AYM includes deep tissue oil massage as well as working with the breath.
How active is the massage? How much movement will there be?
During the massage we work on relaxing the nervous system as much as we can. Noticing where you are holding tension and allowing you to release. All movement is done in a slow and careful manner to gain full relaxation of the nervous system, and is guided and facilitated by the therapist. You may be asked to change position a few times during the massage: prone, to child's pose, to supine, maybe seated postures, back to supine. But you will not be asked to move any more than necessary!
